Gega Elements co-founder and CEO Dr Mohammad Assefi joined Cicada Innovations’ CEO on the main stage at Tech23 for a fireside chat on turning global supply chain disruption into an Australian opportunity.
The conversation centred on one of the most pressing challenges facing the technology industry: the fragility of the global supply chain for gallium and germanium, two critical minerals essential to AI, fast charging, data centres, and space electronics.
Dr Assefi made the case that Australia is uniquely positioned to lead. With millions of tonnes of mining tailings sitting dormant across the country, and Gega’s proven refining technology capable of recovering gallium and germanium from those waste streams, Australia has a genuine opportunity to build sovereign capability in minerals that the world urgently needs.
